The final vote was 219 - 212 in favor of the Cap & Trade bill.
8 Republicans crossed over to vote in favor of Cap & Trade (if only 6 had, we would have won)
2 Republicans did not vote
All Ohio Republican Congressman voted against Cap & Trade
Because a "Constitutional Majority" is necessary for passage of a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Cap and Trade bill passed by only 2 votes. A "Constitutional Majority of the 434 member House of Representatives is 50% +1 or 218. Two Republicans and one Democrat did not vote. That is why Speaker Pelosi had two Democrats who were away from Washington apprehended, and brought back to the capitol for the vote.
This legislation now moves to the Senate, where we have much better odds of defeating it.
It is still important to educate the public on why this vote was important, and what their elected representatives did.
Educating the public about Cap and Trade is the most effective thing you can do to ensure its defeat in the Senate.
